Talk:Systems

From Sirius Sector Neural Net Database

The World of Freelancer is divided into several smaller Solar Systems, known for short as just Systems. Each system contains a plethora of Solar objects, including Asteroid Fields, Mine Fields, Nebulas, Planets, Suns, and trade lanes.

Each system is known to be light years away from each other, so a new method of transit has been developed. The jump gates provide access between systems, and through utilization of space folding technologies allow pilots to travel these immense distances in mere seconds. Jump holes are also present, though they are not so easy to find, and the hazards of traveling through these are as of yet unknown. A jump hole is a gravitational anomoly, presumably created by the jump gates, which acts just like a jump gate in allowing pilots to transit the distance between systems in seconds.

Trade lanes provide travel within systems, enabling pilots to move along a set track in a straight line very quickly. The lanes consist of of a set of 'rings', each one having a top and bottom track, one for each direction. These rings can be disabled by being shot, and pirates often do so to trap unsuspecting traders and loot them. In less developed systems, the lack of trade lanes makes transit much more difficult, so trade is less common.

[edit] The bizarre Forbidden Omicron's in O. Beta myth.

There seems to be a recurring myth that in D4 sector of Omicron Beta, there are jumpgates or jumpholes that lead to Omicron Major or Minor. I have gone through the game files of both the original beta and the identically named system with the Nomad lair, and cannot find them anywhere, much less in D4. How did this legend arise, when even the fake Omicron Beta doesn't have it? Praetyre Order Omicron-4-1 21:53, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
